Construction of 29 MW wind farm in southern Italian region of Basilicata
The German WSB Group (link is external) has sold the Melfi 1 wind farm, which is still under construction in southern Italy. It is the first project carried out by the WSB subsidiary VSB energia verde S.R.L. in Genoa, which was founded in 2011.
The turbine supplier for the project is Nordex. The contract includes the delivery and installation of eight N117/3000 turbines and two N117/2400 turbines, as well as a service agreement for a period of at least 15 years.
Parallel to its sale, preparations for the construction of the 29 MW wind farm have begun in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. Work is currently underway on the access roads and crane sites for constructing the wind turbines. Nordex will install the turbines in early 2015. Construction is scheduled to be complete in June 2015. Andreas Dorner, Managing Director of WSB New Energy Holding GmbH, said: “We have developed a very good overall package, including an optimal location and powerful systems engineering. This is a good start for the team in Italy.”
Nordex Board Member Lars Bondo Krogsgaard said: “We have carried out projects for the WSB Group in the past and are looking forward to further co-operation. This demonstrates that our work and our products are fulfilling expectations. In addition, this contract shows that we are competitive, despite the changed market conditions in Italy.”
The wind farm marks WSB’s entry into the Italian electricity market. VSB was awarded the contract for Melfi 1 during the first round of auctions in Italy. A follow-up project with 18 MW will begin immediately afterwards. The nine turbines, which are grouped together at one location, will be ready for normal operation by the end of 2015.
